But then i kinda have a captive audience out here in the bush.
We plan to spend some time on POW island this summer , so should be more good photo ops. Can't wait to get going. Beautiful spring going on here now, but was a long winter. In 3 weeks we will be in SD."

Last November started it all with little contest- won 7 firsts and 5 3rd places out of 8 categories with 16 entries in a small contest at a local museum. Won 1 first place category and best of class for a photo in professional class at San Bernardino county fair. I gave two photo presentations to a group of phds, scientists and what not at an annual desert symposium I attend--they loved my shots of the desert. Also got some shots printed in a book about Indian Slave Traders. No big deal, but I got my own exclusive exhibit at Mojave National Preserve from exercising my BS at the right place at the right time (for a change). 24 of my photos matted and framed to be displayed at the preserve visitor center from June 21 to September 20 this year. I might have put this in before the guestbook crashed, but I just recieved all the prints and they kick butt. All 12x18 size. Hope I sell some. Most include weird and strange poems I've written. Ain't nothing that pays, but what the hell? I figure I've been broke before, broke now and will probably be broke in the future, but never had this much fun being broke.

On the third day the little labrador (Belle) knocked over a box of Margaret's cookbooks that I hid on the patio so I wouldn't have to take them to the library bookstore. As a passing comment I told her she could eat them. Interesting that the next day I found her in the yard chewing on a page from a book she got out and ripped apart. I took the page out of her mouth and cleaned up the mess. I noticed the picture on the page was of teriyaki beef and stir-fry. She left the actual recipe pages alone. The next day she took another book and tore it up. This time she happily was knawing on a tasty-looking wet burrito combo. I left her in her fiesta. The next day it was a meat loaf. I have to say I'm a bit surprised she prefers beef over the chicken shots. She seems satisfied and she's losing weight and looking better and I don't have to donate the books to the library."

"Hi Darlene, Bill, anyone else... Not lonely. Kind of like it. I didn't speak the language anyway. There are other benefits and things I've noticed. Like the ice cream truck music doesn't play any faster when they haul ass down the street and don't stop. That's strange. The people across the street used to buy their groceries (or drugs) from them I swear. Now that that's not happening I don't have to go out front and pick up the wrappers and throw them in the neighbors yard anymore either. There's no more roosters crowing at all times of the day and night. Seems like the local pattern for eviction is to load up all the mattresses and rope them to the top of the Chevy, kill the bird and have a final barbeque. It smells like sweet mesquite and roasted onions near the end of every month although the aroma is a little further off each time as the nieghborhood is vacated. Since they take their cur-pit bull mixes with them when they move, it's very quiet at night without all the barking as there's nobody around for them to yap at when their owners get get drunk and beat each other. So there's some upside to it all. Without the cops prowling around with shining their spotlights in our windows on I notice it's awful dark out. I may petition the city for a street light so I can see if the paper is in the driveway in the mornings. --- "

"Hi All....In a week we will be heading back to S Dakota for a month and a half or so. I'm still working on coordinating the Feller Reunion June 21-22. The next weekend is a big picnic on my mom's side. Then July 5 is our 40 yr class reunion.
I (yesterday)got my results back from my yDNA tests. I had them check 67 markers, since I got into a "Feller" group, with a good discount. I don't fully understand the results, but the group leader will help me. The tests were delayed because something wasn't obvious with the first test. So they did an SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) to confirm some things(maybe just what kind of "morphodite" I am). So now I guess they put me in Haplogroup "I". There are 6 others in the Feller/Foller group, but I don't match up anywhere close to any of them. There are about 125,000 men tested by FamilyTreeDNA, and I don't have any matches yet. I guess that is pretty rare. So we need to find someone to test who
would be a "close" relative, but not someone I "KNOW" is related. Someone in your family would be good. I think Ron is contemplating it, but maybe could use some encouragement. Like I said, I don't understand it all, so not sure how many markers would be needed to tell how close we could be related.
We've had a couple sunny days here lately, but the temp still hasn't gotten up to 50 F. Since i've been here, thinsgs have gennerally seemed damp, esp. compared to S Dakota. So last fall I covered the garden with plastic just to keep the soil from getting muddy from snow & rain. It really helped, so we were able to till & plant earlier. We just finished planting yesterday. Now it is rainy today, and forecast every day for at least 10 days. So if the weeds don't take over, the garden should be in good shape when we come back in July.
Time to "coordinate" more family reunion. ....Bill"
